Choose between a classic fixed table or an extending version with two leaves for extra seating.

How our extending tables work

All of our rectangular and square tables can be manufactured as extending tables. We can extend them by up to 45 cm at each end, with the extension leaves stored away when not in use. When the leaves are in place, the wood grain aligns seamlessly with the existing table, as all this timber is derived from the same board.

When the table is not extended, the metal supports beneath can be removed swiftly—without the need for any tools. So for most of the year, when only a smaller table is needed, no one will suspect it is extendable. And when guests arrive, you can quickly and easily adjust the table size to accommodate them.

Delivery details

Our workshop team will deliver your table, assemble it in your home, and make sure everything's perfect

We don't use couriers. Our own team will bring your table into your home, unpack it, and put it together for you. They work in our workshop and know these tables inside out, so you can be sure everything is set up exactly as it should be.

  • Expert Assembly: Most of our tables are delivered in parts so we can get them through your doors easily. We will assemble the table in your room of choice and take all the packaging away with us.
  • Workshop Knowledge: Since our drivers are part of our making team, they understand the timber and the joinery better than anyone. They are happy to answer any questions while they are there.
  • Looking after your table: Before we leave, we will show you how to care for the wood and give you a set of instructions to help it last a lifetime.
Care guide

Our Furniture is alive with subtle change and character. Each piece is sealed with our durable lacquer finish to safeguard its beauty, and with simple, attentive care, the wood will mature with elegance for generations.

  • Daily Maintenance: Dust regularly with a soft cloth to keep the surface clean, or use a lightly damp cloth for everyday cleaning, ensuring you dry the surface immediately afterward.
  • Spills & Protection: Wipe up spills promptly and always try to use coasters, placemats, or trivets under hot or wet items.
  • What to avoid: Preserve the finish by avoiding abrasive cleaners, ammonia, or alcohol, and keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Our Lifetime Guarantee

We take immense pride in our work and truly believe the furniture we make should be enjoyed for a lifetime and beyond. All our dining tables are covered by a Lifetime Guarantee on structural integrity and craftsmanship, so you can buy with confidence knowing we stand behind what we build. If you ever have a question about care or need a repair further down the line, just get in touch with the workshop - we’re here to help.

The Beauty of the X

The X-shaped design angles away from the seating position, naturally clearing the knees and ensuring it never interferes with comfort. This thoughtful shape allows for generous legroom, making it easy to seat more guests around the table without compromise.

The Family Behind the Furniture

Welcome to Ennis & Brown, we're a family-run furniture studio based at our farmyard showroom in Tring, Hertfordshire, crafting bespoke and ready-to-deliver furniture built to last generations. What began in 1989 as a small shop in a converted pig barn has grown into a three-generation business, where brothers Nick and Justin, alongside their father Paul, continue Grandad Ennis's tradition of handcrafted quality using carefully selected timber.

Every piece we create - from bespoke dining tables to elegant benches and sideboards - is made with genuine care and attention to detail. Visit our showroom to experience our craftsmanship firsthand (and meet Winnie the pig, Rain the horse, and Barney Boy the dog!), or explore our collections online. We're here to help you create furniture you'll love forever.

Your Order Process

Follow your custom table from order to delivery
1

Wood Selection

Based on your specification, we carefully select the oak that best reflects your chosen style, rustic character, and finish.
Weeks 1-2
2

Into the Kiln

Once your oak has been carefully selected, it enters our kiln for its final conditioning. Although it has already been naturally air-dried for several years, this final stage ensures the timber reaches the ideal moisture content for crafting furniture that will remain stable for generations.
Weeks 2-6
3

Crafting Begins

Your table now enters production, where our master craftsmen begin handcrafting it from the carefully selected timber, ensuring every detail is crafted to your exact specification.
Weeks 7-9
4

Finishing Process

Once coloured in your chosen finish, your table is sealed with multiple coats of premium clear lacquer. The result is a beautifully tactile finish that celebrates the oak's natural grain while offering lasting protection against family life, from dinner parties to children's crafts.
Weeks 9-10
5

Quality Inspection

Before leaving our workshop, your table undergoes a meticulous quality inspection to ensure every detail meets the exacting standards we set for every piece we create.
Weeks 9-10
6

Delivery & Setup

Once complete, your table is delivered by our dedicated in-house delivery team, Nathan and James. They will carefully place your table in the room of your choice, professionally assemble it, and ensure everything is perfect before leaving. They'll also guide you through the best ways to care for your table, so it can be enjoyed by your family for generations to come.
